Prevention Check-Up - Discover your child's risk and protective factors
2026 Shift: According to a recent JAMA report, monthly opioid overdose deaths in the U.S. fell by nearly 50% between late 2023 and 2025.
The Lethal Dose: Despite the decline, the supply remains unpredictable. A lethal dose of fentanyl is still roughly 2 milligrams—comparable to just two grains of salt.
The "Hidden" Risk: In 2025, DEA laboratory testing revealed that 7 out of every 10 fake prescription pills seized contained a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl.
New Additives: Modern illicit fentanyl is increasingly mixed with Xylazine (a veterinary sedative) and Medetomidine, which do not respond to Narcan, making immediate medical intervention more critical than ever. (Note: always administer Naloxone, fentanyl may still be present.)
